When a business moves its fulfilment to a 3PL, the physical handover of stock is the straightforward part. The harder part is making sure the systems talk to each other correctly. Why integrations matter more than the warehouse

An order placed at midnight on a Shopify store should be in the WMS pick queue by the time the warehouse opens — not waiting for a staff member to log in, copy the order, and enter it.

  • Confirm what happens if an integration has a technical issue — is there a manual fallback and how quickly is the connection restored
  • Check whether the integration is included in the service fee or costs extra per platform
  • Request a demonstration of the live order flow before going live — not a slide deck, a working demonstration

Common integration problems and how to avoid them

The most frequent integration issues are inventory sync delays (orders accepted for stock that has already sold elsewhere), duplicate order creation (the same order processed twice if the webhook fires more than once), and tracking numbers not reaching the customer’s platform in time for automated notification emails.

These problems are almost always configuration issues rather than fundamental limitations. A 3PL with an experienced onboarding team will test every integration before going live and run a parallel period where both systems are checked simultaneously.
